The Old World, As Saradomin Remembers It
The Old World, As Saradomin Remembers It
Saradomin gave these recollections to one of my scribes. The scribe tells me the god paused often to correct himself, and twice to correct his brothers. I print them as he gave them. Reldo.
The first shape of the land
I remember the world's first shape well, for I watched over every corner of it. There were only four corners then. The Lumbridge swamp lay in the south, and the Wizards' Tower to the west. The Jolly Boar Inn marked the north, and an empty town lay to the north-west.
My good kingdom of Misthalin held it all. There was no Al Kharid and no Draynor. Edgeville stood so empty that the people called it Ghost Town. There were no banks either, and the outlanders carried everything they owned.
Nobody called anybody a noob in Lumbridge, for they all were. Three black knights were the toughest beasts in the land. The finest warrior wore adamant legs, a mithril body, an adamant large helm and an iron kiteshield, and carried an adamant longsword. There were no amulets at all.
Six tales and a hungry land
The outlanders could take on six tales: Cook's Assistant, the Restless Ghost, Demon Slayer, the Shield of Cuepee, Romeo and Juliet, and Sheep Shearer. Cooking meant meat and bread. Many a brave warrior died of scurvy.
No outlander knew how to fish. Nobody crafted either, and Lumbridge's Sunday craft fairs fell to ruin. I do not miss those fairs. The pottery was dreadful.
The land grows
Three months later, Asgarnia opened its gates. Falador, Ice Mountain, the Dwarven Mine, Port Sarim and Rimmington joined the world, and a thousand outlanders walked the land at once. Then came the lands beyond: Taverley, Catherby, Zanaris, the deep Wilderness, and sharks in the sea.
The skill nobody trained
One skill stood on every outlander's scroll and could not be trained: Carpentry. My brothers and I had set out to give the world its depth. When you change the world, you take on every blade of grass, and Carpentry had to wait until the change was done.
Carpentry left the scroll when the world learned Agility. Its heir, Construction, waits still. Ask the gypsy of Varrock why, if you dare.
The world has changed since, and changed again. The old world lives on in the lands of the Golden Era, and the outlanders who walked it first are remembered by name in this Library. Reldo.
