Guthix Keeps the Plaque Blank

The god of balance writes of a day that did not happen. A gypsy saw a massacre in her crystal ball and stopped it, and Falador is full of questions. Guthix answers them, as far as balance allows.

Greetings, mortals. Some days are written upon mine board, and are played a thousand times, and then are not played at all. This summer brought such a day.

Thou hast many questions about it. I shall answer those I may.

Great Guthix, I looked into my crystal ball and saw a curse on the building of houses. A man named Cursed You would build the first, and from it blood would spill across Falador, on a day of Year 169. I saw a durial in 321. So I cast a spell, and the houses never came, and the day passed in peace. Did I do wrong to bend what was to be?

Gypsy Aris, of her tent in Varrock square

Thou didst bend it, and the world did not break. That is the whole of mine answer, and it is a kind one.

Upon mine board, that day was played a thousand times, and a thousand times Falador ran red. Thy spell took one piece off the board. The game went on without it. Balance is not the keeping of every piece. It is the keeping of the game.

Lord Guthix, a stone plaque has appeared in the middle of my park, among the flowers. It has a frame for words, but the stone is blank. Nobody remembers placing it. Should I dig it up?

Wyson the gardener, of Falador Park

Leave it. That plaque was made to name the fallen of the day that did not come. Since none fell, it hath nothing to say.

A blank stone is the finest memorial a city can own. Plant roses around it, and let the travellers wonder.

Guthix, years ago I asked for houses for the travellers, with good locks. Now a man called Cursed You camps outside Rimmington with a roll of house plans under his arm. He says the houses were promised, and he waits for them every day. Will they ever come?

Hetty, of Rimmington

They will not. The gypsy's spell keeps the building of houses from the hands of the travellers, and the spell holds.

Thy land hath lost a craft before. In the old world, the scrolls of skill listed Carpentry, and no traveller could ever train it. Construction was to be its heir. Some crafts are written down and never built, and the world is quieter for it. Bring Cursed You some soup. He will wait a long time.

God of balance, a traveller called Durial321 walks the streets of Falador at night. He stares at his hand, where there is a mark he says he cannot explain. He asks the guards whether he has done something wrong. We cannot find any crime in our books. What should we tell him?

A Guard, of Falador

Tell him the truth: he hath done nothing. The mark is the shadow of a deed that was never done, and some souls feel the weight of a thing they did not do.

Do not arrest him. Do not befriend him either. Let him walk. That is his part on the board now.

Sir Amik Varze, of the White Knights' castle, asks: "Should my knights keep watch on that day each year?"
Keep watch on every day, good knight. The quiet ones most of all.

In balance,

Guthix
