Letters #36 - Saradomin Wants Order
Saradomin Wants Order

The Golden Era has faded, and the god of wisdom has a plan. He wants the kingdoms united, the roads tidy and the crowds in order. Not every king agrees, and one of Zamorak's demons writes in to laugh at him.
Greetings, my faithful followers. The world has grown crowded and quarrelsome, and my brother Guthix sleeps through it all. Somebody must take charge. As usual, it is me.
My plan is simple. The kingdoms should stand together under one law, with straight roads, honest weights and a bank on every corner. A modern world. An orderly world. Mine.
Holy Saradomin, I have read of your plan with great interest. If the kingdoms stand together, who sits on the throne? I ask only so I can have the right cushion made.
King Roald, of Varrock palace
Nobody sits on the throne, Roald. The law sits on the throne, and the kings sit at a long table beside it, taking turns to speak. You may bring your own cushion.
My lord, the White Knights serve you gladly. But Asgarnia has its own laws and its own king, ill as he is. My knights fear that one law for all means Varrock's law for all. Must Falador bow to Misthalin?
Sir Amik Varze, of the White Knights' castle, Falador
Falador bows to nobody but me. The one law would be my law, and every kingdom would keep its walls and its colours.
I see your worry, good knight, and I will not pretend it is foolish. Order that comes too fast feels like a cage. I will go slowly. Slowly for a god, at least.
Saradomin, I teleport travellers to the rune essence mine all day. The mine is so full that they bump into each other and drop their pickaxes. Could your new order give each traveller a mine of their own?
Aubury, of Aubury's Rune Shop, Varrock
Not a mine each, Aubury, but a queue. Order begins with a queue. Paint a line on the floor of your shop, and see how happy it makes you.
The truth is that the old world is too small for its crowds. That is why I want it modern. A modern world builds new roads to new places. An old world just gets fuller.
Hello bald one. My master Zamorak says your plan is boring. He wants the old world back the way it was before, with my cousins in it, and fire, and no queues. He says if you build one straight road he will put a demon on it. He also says send Draynor Malt.
The Lesser demon who keeps Zamorak's drawings
Tell my brother that I received his message, and that his spelling has improved now that he dictates to demons.
He wants his old world. I want a modern one. One of us will have to give way. It will not be me.
Saradomin, my apprentices say the world has grown sharper to their eyes this summer, with softer light and deeper shadows. Yet others look at the same tower and see it as it always was. Which of them sees truly?
Wizard Mizgog, of the Wizards' Tower
Both. The world shows itself to each traveller as that traveller chooses. My brother Guthix says his own shape bends to the eye that looks at him. It seems the world has learned the trick.
Yours in wisdom,
Saradomin
