Guthix Strikes the Wall

The god of balance is awake. Two worlds have become one, and the land is full of new places and old faces. Guthix tells how it happened, explains why the light now opens in Varrock, and lets the q speak for the first time.

Greetings, mortals. I am awake. Mine brothers would not stop, and so I stopped them.

Thy world is larger than it was. Some of thee have noticed. Most of thee have noticed loudly.

Lord Guthix, on the night the world changed, the druids heard a voice scream "GUTHIIIX" from the stone circle. Then a crack like the world's biggest door slamming. In the morning, there were new lands beyond the edges of every map. What happened?

Kaqemeex, of the druids' circle in Taverley

I woke, as the Edicts promised. Mine brothers were arming the faithful over which world each would have: Saradomin's modern world of nations, or Zamorak's old world of demons. Neither would yield.

So I screamed mine own name, and struck mine head against a wall, and the two worlds fused into one. Now each brother hath his world, and both are in the same place. Neither is content. That is how I know it was balanced.

Great Guthix, the wall of my cave cracked from top to bottom that night, and I heard a thump like a mountain falling over. The travellers say you hit your head. Is it true that you joined the two worlds by bashing your head against a wall? Was it my wall?

Thurgo, south of Port Sarim

It is true. It was among mine calmer decisions.

It was not thy wall, good dwarf, but every wall in the world felt it. Mend the crack with a redberry pie. I am told it mends most things with thee.

Guthix, for years every newcomer woke in a light over Lumbridge, and I met them at the castle door. Since the night of the wall, no newcomer has come through. My friends in Varrock say they wake beside the west bank now. Who moved the light, and what shall I do with my days?

The Lumbridge Guide, of Lumbridge castle

We moved it, all three of us, and for once mine brothers agreed. Lumbridge hath no bank since its branch closed, and a newcomer with nowhere to keep their things is a newcomer who prays loudly. Varrock hath two banks and plenty of people. The light opens there now.

As for thy days: guide the ones who wander back. Many still walk to Lumbridge, as if they remember a road they never took.

To the mortals of the world. I am the q. My maker struck a wall, and I was there. The p and I stand side by side in every word that names this world. The W stands apart. That is all I am allowed to say.

The q, demi-god of Guthix

The q speaks rarely, and always says too much. I shall leave it there.

Mine brothers will tell thee the rest, for they talk of little else.

In balance,

Guthix
