Letters #43 - Saradomin Welcomes Kourend
Saradomin Welcomes Kourend

A whole kingdom has arrived in the west, and the god of wisdom could not be happier. He welcomes Great Kourend, warms the camp at the Wintertodt, and receives a furious letter from deep beneath the TzHaar city.
Greetings, my faithful followers. I promised you lands in the west, and the west has delivered. Great Kourend has settled into place: five houses, one city, and a council of elders that actually meets. I am almost jealous.
Saradomin, the five houses of Kourend have ruled their land together for a long time, without any god's help. Now our ships find Misthalin and Asgarnia on the horizon. Their knights send us letters about a union under one law. Must Kourend join it?
Lord Kandur Hosidius, of the house of Hosidius, Great Kourend
Must? No. Should? Gladly. Five houses that share one city are exactly the order I want for the whole world. You have done in Kourend what I have spent ages asking the kings of Misthalin to do.
Keep your houses, your laws and your excellent kitchens. Send the kings of the east a copy of your constitution. Underline the good parts.
Holy Saradomin, I keep the camp at the doors of the Wintertodt, in the frozen north of Kourend. The travellers come in crowds to feed the braziers and keep the cold one asleep. They are brave, but they keep setting themselves on fire. Can you bless the braziers?
Ignisia, of the Wintertodt camp
I bless the braziers, the logs and the travellers. I cannot bless good sense into them. Hand out warm clothes and remind them that a fire burns in both directions.
God of the surface. I was a man once. I was a chieftain, and my people were swept away by the war machine of an empire you would rather not name. I won my freedom in its arena with my bare hands. Now I am bound in a wall of fire beneath the TzHaar, and your people come in their hundreds to break me. Tell them I am not a prize.
TzKal-Zuk, of the Inferno
I know your story, Zuk, and I will not pretend it is a happy one. You fought the empire that stole your people, and you won. Few mortals can say as much.
My people do not come to you for a prize. They come because you are the hardest test in the world, and they want to know whether they can pass it. Most cannot. You may take that as a compliment.
Saradomin of the surface. JalYt ask to enter the Inferno. TzHaar-Ket-Keh asks a price: the cape of fire, won from TzTok-Jad. Many JalYt give the cape. Few come back. TzHaar not understand why JalYt pay to burn.
TzHaar-Ket-Keh, keeper of the Inferno
Neither do I, TzHaar-Ket-Keh. Your cousin in the Fight Caves asked me the same question years ago. The answer has not improved. Keep the capes. Wear one, perhaps. They suit you.
Strength through wisdom,
Saradomin
